HOSTINGYour choice of web host is as important as any decision for your future site. Please Note: We ONLY provide hosting for the sites that we build. Behind any SiWIS website is a hosting infrastructure which consists of high powered Dell PowerEdge servers. The servers comprise a web server, containing each site and it's files and seperate database servers which collectively feed the content for each site. The servers are monitored 24/7 and run backups to on a 24 hour basis to provide easy recovery in the event of a failure. The servers are connected together by an internal Gigabit network and sit behind a hardware firewall. The servers are connected to a Tier 1 IP network provider located in Derby. This allows control and maintenance of the network quality, ensuring low latency and high reliability. The web server is connected directly to the Internet backbone with unlimited bandwidth capacity. UK hosted websites are faster and gain higher UK search rankings than websites hosted in any other part of the World. This is due to the number of "hops" or connections that the data has to travel through. Trans-Atlantic connections are fast but bottle-necks in data transmission at peak times can cause an overall "lag" for UK visitors accessing sites hosted on overseas servers. This can affect the speed of a website. The search engines also rate non-UK hosted websites less than UK hosted because they assume that users want local results. This is why SIWIS websites are hosted on UK based servers. Finally, we *could* source our servers considerably cheaper by looking overseas. BUT WE DON'T. Servers rarely go wrong, but when they do, we want to know that there is a dedicated team available to rectify probles immediately; People we can talk to on the phone; People who share our determination to provide a top level service. SiWIS servers are provided and 24/7 managed & monitored by ForLinux Ltd of Newark, Notts and located in the Node4 data centre in Derby. Managed Hosting Page Updated: Wednesday 3 November 2010 |
